Wath upon Dearne is about eight minutes up the Dearne Valley from our yard on Newsam Road in Kilnhurst. Old Wath, mining Wath and new Wath

Wath has grown in layers, and each layer has its own kind of flat roof.

Is a newer roof still under the builder’s warranty?

On the newer estates we are sometimes called to a flat roof that is only a few years old. Before paying anyone to fix it, check the paperwork that came with the house. Most new homes carry an NHBC or similar warranty, and in the early years the builder is usually responsible for putting defects right. Two councils in one valley

The S63 postcode crosses a council boundary. Wath, Newhill, Brampton Bierlow and West Melton are in Rotherham borough, but Bolton-upon-Dearne, just across the river, is in Barnsley, as is Wombwell further up the valley. For a straightforward like-for-like roof replacement it makes no difference, because no planning application is needed.
