What is Fatra PVC?

One sheet, welded into one waterproof skin.

Fatra a.s. is a Czech manufacturer of plastics and one of the bigger names in European single ply. Its PVC roofing membranes are sold as Fatrafol, and in the UK by product codes such as FF810 and FF807. Fatra UK, based in Cardiff, supports architects and installers here with specifications, fixing calculations and site visits.

A Fatra roof is a single layer of flexible PVC. The sheets overlap, and each lap is welded with a hot-air welder running at 450 to 550 °C, which melts the two layers into one. There are no glued joints to open up and no torches on the roof.

We are not Fatra. We are an independent single ply roofing contractor in Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire, and a Fatra approved contractor. Fatra is one of seven manufacturers whose systems we are trained on, and one we fit regularly. Our roof at New College, Oxford won an SPRA award for detailing in 2024. When Fatra suits the job, and especially when it is already in the specification, we are the people to call.

The Fatra range

Which Fatra product goes where.

Fatra makes more than one roof. These are the single ply products you are most likely to see on a UK specification, and what each one is for. We fit the whole range.

Mechanically fixed

FF810

Polyester-reinforced PVC, fixed through the laps into the deck and hot-air welded over the fixings. 1.5 mm as standard, 1.2 mm also made. Dark grey (RAL 7012) or anthracite (RAL 7016). The membrane on our Sheffield green roof.

Fleece-backed, fully adhered

FF807

A fleece-backed PVC membrane bonded to the substrate with Fatra's own adhesive, so there are no fixings through the roof. 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm, in dark grey, light grey or anthracite.

Detailing membrane

FF804

Unreinforced PVC that can be heated and formed around corners, pipes and outlets. Fatra makes it for details only, never as the main sheet.

Walkway

FF812

A textured 1.2 mm PVC walkway, welded onto the roof to mark a safe route to plant, rooflights or outlets and protect the membrane underneath.

Green roof

Modular Tray

Pre-grown sedum in 540 × 540 mm recycled trays that clip together over the membrane, each holding around 20 litres of water per m². The system on our Sheffield green roof.

Fatra also makes felt, liquid and hot melt systems. This page is about its PVC single ply.

Why Fatra

What you get with a Fatra PVC roof.

Taken from Fatra's datasheets and BBA certificates, not from a sales brochure.

BBA certified

FF810 and FF807 each hold a BBA certificate (02/3921 and 04/4079). The BBA puts their service life at over 30 years in normal conditions, with regular maintenance.

Fire rated

BROOF(t4) external fire performance in the build-ups Fatra has had tested.

Root resistant

Tested to EN 13948 and the FLL procedure, so the same membrane can sit under a sedum or wildflower green roof.

Recyclable PVC

Fatra's PVC can be recycled, and Fatra quotes an A+ BRE Green Guide rating and ISO 14001 environmental management.

Fixings calculated

For a mechanically fixed roof, Fatra's technical department works out the fixing layout for the building's wind loads. We fix to it.

20-year guarantee

Fatra issues its 20-year guarantee after its own field technician has inspected the finished roof, so a second pair of eyes checks our work.

How we fit it

A Fatra roof in five steps.

  1. 1

    Free quote visit

Chris visits, measures the roof and looks at the deck, upstands and outlets. You get a written quote that names the Fatra system.

  2. 2

    Specification

Fatra's technical team can write the specification and calculate the fixings. On our Sheffield green roof, Fatra wrote the spec and we built to it.

  3. 3

    Build-up

Vapour control layer and insulation for a warm roof, then the membrane: FF810 mechanically fixed, or FF807 bonded down.

  4. 4

    Welding

Seams are hot-air welded with laps of at least 50 mm. Test welds are tear-tested before work starts, and the finished seams are probed.

  5. 5

    Inspection

Fatra's field technician inspects the finished roof, then Fatra issues its 20-year guarantee. Ours is a 20-year workmanship guarantee on top.

Going under a green roof? We also test the finished membrane electronically before any sedum goes on, because once the trays are down nobody can see the waterproofing.

What it costs

Fatra PVC roof prices, in pounds per m².

  • New single ply roof on a home: £100–£118 per m² inc VAT, from £90/m² on larger roofs.
  • Warm-roof insulation: add £40 per m².
  • Scaffolding, if needed: £1,000–£2,000.
  • Smallest new roof: £950, however small the roof.
  • Fatra green roof (membrane and sedum): from £285 per m² inc VAT. You arrange the structural engineer, whose fee is separate.
  • Commercial roofs: priced per job from the specification, + VAT.

The price gap between the single ply manufacturers we fit is small, so choosing Fatra rarely changes the budget much. The roof's size, access and insulation matter far more.

Fatra already in your specification?

We are a Fatra approved contractor. Send us the specification and drawings. We price to it, build to it, and work with Fatra's technical team and field technician through to the final inspection. On our Sheffield green roof the architect drew it, Fatra wrote the specification, and the contractor has since come back to us for their next green roof.

FAQ

Fatra PVC questions

What is Fatra PVC roofing?
A single ply roof made from Fatra's PVC membrane: one tough, flexible sheet laid over the roof, with every seam welded with hot air so the joints become part of the sheet. Fatra a.s. is a Czech manufacturer, part of the Agrofert group, and describes itself as one of Europe's largest makers of single ply membranes. Fatra UK in Cardiff supports UK specifiers and installers.
Is Fatrafol the same thing as Fatra?
Yes. Fatrafol is the name Fatra uses for its PVC roofing membranes. In the UK you will usually see them by product code instead, such as FF810 (mechanically fixed) and FF807 (fleece-backed, adhered). If your specification says Fatrafol, Fatra PVC or FF810, it is the same family of membranes.
How long does a Fatra PVC roof last?
The BBA certificates for FF810 and FF807 give a service life of over 30 years in normal conditions, provided the roof is inspected and maintained. BS 6229 recommends an inspection twice a year; our maintenance plans cover single ply roofs.
What is the difference between FF810 and FF807?
FF810 is reinforced with a polyester mesh and mechanically fixed: screws and plates go through the laps into the deck, and the next sheet is welded over them. FF807 has a fleece backing and is bonded down with adhesive, so nothing goes through the roof. Which one suits depends on the deck, the insulation and the building's wind loads, and the quote visit settles it.
What colours does Fatra PVC come in?
FF810 comes in dark grey (RAL 7012) and anthracite (RAL 7016) as standard, and FF807 in dark grey, light grey and anthracite. Fatra can make other RAL colours to order, with a minimum order quantity, so a special colour suits a large commercial roof better than a garage.
What guarantee comes with a Fatra roof?
A 20-year Fatra guarantee, which Fatra issues once its own field technician has inspected the finished roof. On top of it you get our own 20-year workmanship guarantee, so the materials and the workmanship are both covered.
Are you a Fatra approved contractor?
Yes, and we fit Fatra regularly, across its whole range. That matters: Fatra's BBA certificates say its systems should only be installed by contractors Fatra has trained and approved, and Fatra won't issue its guarantee until its own technician has inspected the finished roof. Fatra's warranty on our Sheffield green roof was registered in June 2026. We are not Fatra itself: we are an independent roofing contractor in Kilnhurst.
Can Fatra PVC go under a green roof?
Yes. Fatra's PVC membranes are root resistant, and green roofs fall within the BBA certificates. We lay the membrane, test it electronically, then clip Fatra's pre-grown Modular Trays over the top. See our green roofs page for how it goes together.
Can a Fatra roof be laid in winter?
Yes, in the right weather. Fatra's instructions rule out laying the membrane in rain, fog or snow, or below 0 °C unless precautions are taken against condensation on the surface, and the deck must be dry and clean. We plan the work around the forecast; our winter guide explains more.
How much does a Fatra PVC roof cost?
For a home, our guide price for a new single ply roof is £100–£118 per m² inc VAT, from £90/m² on larger roofs. Warm-roof insulation adds £40/m², scaffolding £1,000–£2,000 if needed, and the smallest new roof we fit is £950. A Fatra green roof starts at £285/m². Commercial roofs are priced per job, + VAT. The estimator gives a range for your roof in a minute.
Which areas do you cover?
Homes across South Yorkshire: Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, Sheffield and the towns between, from our yard in Kilnhurst. Green roofs in Sheffield and on the North East Derbyshire edge. For commercial Fatra work we travel further for the right project, as the Whitley Bay ice rink shows.
